Scroll Compressors
Scroll compressors operate by using two interleaved spiral scrolls, one stationary and one orbiting, to compress refrigerant gas. As the orbiting scroll moves, it traps and compresses the refrigerant, gradually increasing its pressure as it moves toward the centre of the scrolls. This method ensures smooth and efficient compression with minimal friction.
Scroll compressors provide several advantages. These compressors offer high energy efficiency, particularly at part-load conditions, which translates into lower energy bills and reduced operational costs. They are also known for their reliability, with fewer moving parts leading to less wear and tear, reducing maintenance needs and increasing system longevity. Modular and Scalable
For applications requiring a broader range of capacity or greater scalability, scroll compressor chillers can accommodate multiple modules. These modules can be individually controlled and adjusted based on the cooling load, providing a more precise response to the cooling requirements of a building or process. This not only optimises energy use but also can extend the lifespan of the equipment by avoiding short-cycling and reducing wear and tear on the compressors.
While scroll chillers offer a level of scalability, the extent to which they can be scaled up depends on the specific design and configuration of the chiller system. For very large or industrial-scale applications, other types of chillers, such as those with screw or centrifugal compressors, might be more traditionally used due to their higher capacity ranges. However, for many commercial and some industrial applications, the scalability of scroll compressor chillers provides a highly efficient and flexible cooling solution.

R410A Refrigerant
Cooltherm's chiller product range includes chillers that use scroll compressors and R410A refrigerant, a more eco-friendly option that replaced R22.
R410A has been in use for over ten years, and the Cooltherm team know it comprehensively – providing chillers that are not just reliable, but also work efficiently. Moreover, R410A helps these chillers run better, using less energy compared to others.
Low GWP Refrigerant Chillers
Cooltherm's range of chillers includes a selection that deploy refrigerants that are much better for the environment: HFO-1234ze, with almost no global warming impact, and R290, which is a natural refrigerant with a GWP of 3.
