The Evolution of Specified Ambient Temperatures for Chiller Design in the UK
Over the past four decades, the United Kingdom’s building services industry has seen a shift in the specified ambient temperatures used for chiller selection and HVAC system design. This evolution reflects both observed changes in global and regional temperatures, and a growing awareness of system resilience requirements. Where typical specifications in the 1990s targeted summer ambient temperatures of around 30°C, current best practice sees consultants regularly specifying up to 42°C, accounting for extreme weather events and future climate projections. |
