The risk of air conditioning spreading coronavirus (COVID-19) in the workplace is extremely low, well-maintained air-conditioning systems which introduce fresh air into the workplace will lower the risk further.
Workplaces can continue using most types of air conditioning system as normal. But, it is strongly advisedthat you ensure thatthe maintenance of your air-conditioning system is up to date, it is wise to increase the frequency at which air filters are inspected for their cleanliness and effectiveness.
It is recommended that you turn off air recirculation (or heat recovery) functions for buildings that use a centralised ventilation system, it is recommended if possible that the fresh air supply into buildings is increased if possible.
Employers must, by law, ensure an adequate supply of fresh air in the workplace and this has not changed.
It is also wise to consider if you can improve the circulation of fresh air and prevent pockets of stagnant air in occupied spaces. This can be achieved through simply opening windows or improving the way the ventilation system functions.
